ANTHONY GANGI JR. MAKING STRIDES IN FLORIDA WINTER TOUR JUNIOR ACTION

GT7/Tony Kart pilot scores top-tens in racy Rotax Junior
26 Feb 2014

Contesting his first full season in the junior karting ranks, multi-time champion Anthony Gangi Jr. is making strides in the ultra-competitive Rotax Junior class. Taking on the tight and twisty Ocala Gran Prix (OGP) facility in Ocala, Florida for rounds three and four of the prestigious Formula Kart Productions Florida Winter Tour (FWT), the young gun would leave with two respectable top-ten results.

Starting out the 2014 FWT series at the Homestead Karting Complex in Homestead, Florida in January with tenth and ninth place final results, Gangi Jr. would return to racing action two weeks ago at the 0.52-mile Ocala facility. Racing out of the home track Ocala Gran Prix (OGP) team tent, the Tony Kart pilot would benefit from OGP's vast track and chassis knowledge.

"It was great to be under the OGP team tent," explained Anthony Gangi Sr. "We really worked well together, and their operation is second to none. We can't thank Jorge and the whole OGP crew enough for this awesome experience."

Flying OGP and GT7 colors, and continuing to work with pro tuner AJ Whisler of Whisler Racing Services, Gangi Jr. would hit the track Friday for two qualifying sessions. Starting with qualifying for Sunday's action, the up-and-coming pilot found himself back in the 21st position. Back on track later that day for Saturday's session, Gangi Jr. upped the ante and wound up seventh in an extremely close run within the top-ten.

On track Saturday for the first wheel-to-wheel action, Gangi Jr. would fall slightly down the running order to finish 17th in the prefinal. Battling back in the day's final, the 2013 FWT TaG Cadet Champion and FWT Mini Max Vice-Champion would use his race craft to battle back to a ninth place result. Sunday saw Gangi Jr. power from his 21st place starting position in the prefinal to finish in 12th. Continuing his streak of top-ten final results, the GT7 Motorsports driver would end his day with his best FWT junior finish to date with a sixth place finish.

The FWT will conclude in March at the Orlando Kart Center, with Gangi Jr. currently sixth in the overall Rotax Junior point standings.
